The smell of rain in the air brings with it promise
Promise of something new
Promise of cleansing
Of leaving the past behind
The smell of rain in the air causes me to believe
Believe that it will be ok
Believe that tomorrow will be better
Hope in the unseen
The smell of rain causes longing
Longing for refreshing
Longing for quenching
An end to the drought
The smell of rain did not deliver on the promise
The smell of rain brought nothing but false hope
And here I stand still longing
Cos Stellenbosch is too freakin hot and I’m going out of my mind and this air-con is not helping…
