I was apprehensive about sharing this, cos I don’t believe as Christians we should be bashing the Church, or other church denominations, but at the same time, not speaking out against something like this says that I agree with it, doesn’t it.
I’m not a member of Mars Hill. I’ve never met Mark Driscoll and don’t know him in person, so this is not a personal attack on him. I’ve read some articles he’s written, and while I disagree with him on some things, I also agree on some points.
But this is just wrong, I think. This sounds more like a cult than a Christian fellowship…in my opinion. Anyway…

Leave me your thoughts if you wish.
so when was MH exactly going to start forgiving the guy ? after another month of confessions ?
how many interpretations of matthew 18 is there then ? The way i see it is that if I sin and my brother points it out an i listen and repent God will forgive me (and so should His church) and wash me whiter as snow (and I am going to add that this happens immediately. not in 2 months after 900 confessions.)
I have not read anywhere in “Andrew’s” story that MH wants to forgive him nor in any of MH’s responses.
(Hey T! hope all is well!)
I don’t understand the big stink that is being made about forgiveness. What happened is between the guy and the “other woman.” He could have simply told his fiance that he would have a difficult time remaining faithful to her and its best to break off the engagement. If she wanted details; he could tell her. His fiance can then accept him as he is or agree to break off the engagement. He doesn’t need the church to forgive him.

Well, forbid anyone takes Scripture seriously. I don’t agree 100% with exactly how MH went about this, but their stance on Scripture is sound. We just don’t see many people take it and use it. Sin makes people mad, and when we’re shone our sin, it makes us mad.
I am sure that some of the humans at MH messed up, and certainly could have communicated better. But as you said above, we should be careful about bashing people and whole churches. The gentleman who wrote this article obviously has an axe to grind and very little knowledge of the Bible. Talk him with several grains of salt.
