A conversation with God
Posted on: August 13, 2010
I was at the book fair the other day and found a copy of The Prayer of Jabez for $2.99. I’d completely forgotten about that book. Which is odd considering how popular it was ten years ago. Seemed like everyone had a copy of that book. Or the Bible study. Or the journal. Or the workbook or the copy for teens or women.
It was quite the industry really, and the reasons for it were pretty apparent. Say a little prayer, and God will bless you in abundance. It almost seemed too good to be true, but there it was. There was even a verse to back it up.
I never bought a copy. Didn’t even buy the $2.99 copy at the book fair. Not because I didn’t (and still do) want to be blessed in abundance, but because once upon a time I said my own version of Jabez’s prayer without knowing it. The answer I got was a little different than his. And though that prayer was uttered at years ago, I still remember that conversation between God and me.
It was like this:

Ten Dollar Challenge…
Posted on: December 19, 2009
Short, sweet, and to the point…this post is in response to Billy Coffey’s $10 challenge...join in the fun!
=======================
I don’t actually know what the exchange rate is right now, so instead of a ten dollar challenge it became the hundred rand challenge.
I saw a lady on the side of the road carrying a baby on her back begging for money. Quite a common sight actually, but for some reason I decided I wanted to help her. I only had a R200 bill on me…why? ‘Cos I honestly love carrying R200 bills around…makes me feel rich…(yes, yes I know). First I tried getting dinner at Steers to make change and they said they don’t have change for a R200 bill, so then I went to Spar and ended up buying a R6.50 bottle of coke just so I could break the R200. So I walk back to the corner and the lady’s not there…great…all that for nothing.
So I waited around for a bit and she finally came back and so I just went up to her with the bill all folded up so she couldn’t see how much it was. And so I just said “Merry Christmas”, handed it to her and turned to walk away and she’s got all happy and was all grateful and stuff and she was all “God bless you”…and this was before she even saw how much it was.
I wonder how long she had been waiting on that corner…

facial hair post of the week
=================
interviewer: Your dubious photographer is an alpha male indeed…like a majestic lion with his mane blowing in the wind. I must become as manly as he is! What facial hair would you recommend I grow as a beginner?
interviewee(?): Growing facial hair is serious business. Before diving in with little or no experience, I recommend you purchase four or five gerbils and attach them to your face to see how you look. Once you find a configuration that suits your face, trace around the gerbils with a Sharpie to see where you need to grow the hair. As it begins to fill in, you’ll be amazed at the looks you’ll get from people. Oh, and don’t forget to remove the gerbils after tracing. Otis Clutterbuck once forgot and woke up in the middle of the night to find his cat playing with his face.
