Evening service
———————–

O come let us adore Him – John Wade,John Reading
All who are thirsty – Brenton Brown, Glenn Robertson
Glory – Rueben Morgan
O praise him – David Crowder*Band
How great is our God – Brad Klynsmith
How great is our God – Chris Tomlin, Jesse Reeves and Ed Cash

Kev led. Acoustic set with just one guitar and a djembe.

Very few people tonight – next week is test week so students busy preparing.

Anyway, the preach was on friendships.

1. Discipling in a non-Christian context (go and make disciples of all nations)

2. Discipling in a Christian context (teaching them to obey everything i’ve taught them)

3. Mentorship – intentionally pouring into someone, and being poured into.

Evening service
—————-

Our God is an awesome God – Rich Mullens
Our God reigns – Delirious?
For who you are – Marty Sampson
Glory – Rueben Morgan
I could sing of your love forever – Martin Smith
Hallelujah (Your love is amazing) – Brenton Brown
Take my life – Frances Havergal, Louis Hérold, Chris Tomlin
Awesome God (Your voice is) – Vicky Beeching

Ronel led worship. Small group today. When the service started we had about 6 people in the congregation and at the end we had about 10 – but it was a good service nonetheless.

Chris the pastor gave the preach today on Jesus the Way – all about how, as important as it is to think about what Jesus would do (WWJD), it is also important to think about how he would do it (HWJDI). He used the story of Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin and the crew going to the North Pole and related that to how sometimes we see heaven as the end point but we don’t think about the journey there and how Jesus is the way and he has shown us the way to go. And he also touched on discernment and testing the spirits: we need to know that the way we are following is actually God’s cos sometimes we can follow a way that “seems” good, but it’s not God’s will and stuff.

Evening Service
————————–

Holy is the Lord – Chris Tomlin and Louie Giglio
Blessed be your name – Matt and Beth Redman
You are – Mark Roach
Revelation song – Jennie Lee Riddle
How great is our God – Chris Tomlin, Jesse Reeves and Ed Cash
God of wonders – Marc Byrd and Steve Hindalong

Kev led worship. I thought it went well. And it was cool to sing with the worship team after the break we had over the varsity holidays.

The preach was not a preach, but a discussion really. We talked about church, The Church, Christianity and Christ following. This discussion was preempted by Anne Rice’s facebook statuses and all the things written about John Ellis on the internet lately.

Really enjoyed the discussion. I’ve also been thinking on the same things lately so it was good to hear from other people on the subject.

Morning
==========

went to youth this morning and we watchied a dvd of Nick Vujicic called “no arms, no legs, no worries”…that guy is ah-mazing. That’s the kind of person I aspire to be…stop looking at what I don’t have and start counting my blessings, and realizing what I have in Joshua Davidson. love!!!

Evening

Jesus, all for Jesus (Robin Mark/Jennifer Atkinson)
Open the eyes (Paul Baloche)
Your love Oh Lord (Third Day)
Here I am to worship (Darlene Zschech)
Better is one day (Matt Redman)

Kev led worship tonight – just him on guitar and vocals and Madeleine on keyboards and vocals…awesomtastic! Very cool acoustic vibe that really opened the place up to worship instead of focusing on the music. I thought it was great. And yay for some time off.

Tonight’s preach was about being known for what we stand for or who we are about – LOVE – as opposed to being known for what we stand against. For instance, Christians tend to be known for being anti-homosexuality, or anti-abortion, or anti-this-and-that…so for being against stuff and not what we really are about, which is loving God and loving people. love!!!

verses: Colossians 3:17, 23; Hebrews 12: 1 – 2; John 13: 34 – 35; Mathew 5: 13, 43 – 45; 2 Corinthians 2: 14 – 15.

Siyakudumisa (Zulu) (Public Domain)
Fall at your feet (Kim Johnson)
Lord, let your glory fall (Matt Redman)
Alles vir my (Afrikaans) (Retief Burger)
All creatures of our God and King (David Crowder*Band version)

I was supposed to take the youth service today but most of them were on camp…only 2 people showed up so we stayed in the main service. The preach was on being a follower I guess…the whole follow me as I follow Christ. We should have people we look up to, but we should also be people others look up to.

For the last six weeks we have been going through the six pillars – or main values – enGAGE stands on. Today was the last one – “Worshiping Passionately”.

We didn’t have any music today – the point being to say that worship isn’t just the music part of the service.

First we got a piece of paper with either a bible verse about worship or a song we use in church and we each picked a spot to sit by ourselves and meditate on what worship meant using the verse or song.

Then we came back together and had some sharing time.

Then we talked about other parts of worship, including evangelizing, meditating on who God is and on his word, tithes and offerings, and then we had communion together, which is also a form of worship. Afterwards we had a time of soaking, then people who wanted prayer were prayed for.

Was such as awesome service and I really felt God’s presence for the first time in a while.

Morning:

Heart of worship (Matt Redman)
Sing Sing Sing (Chris Tomlin)
Dwell (Casey Corum)
Savior King (Marty Sampson)

Went to youth – which was awesome – lots of new people! The group continues to grow. Anyway, we watched another “I am second” video and basically had a discussion on what came out of that…this one focusing ways to deal with pain/loneliness/unworthiness, etc (the girl in the video used to be a cutter) and finding joy in Christ…and the group seems to be enjoying the series…and so am I.

Evening:

Most of the students have gone home for the holidays (and enGAGE is a student majority congregation) so we did things a little bit differently this week. We watched the Rob Bell “Everything is spiritual” dvd and ordered in pizza instead of going to Gino’s. Went really well, I think.

Morning
============

I actually went to my church’s morning service this week (woo hoo) but I was late so I missed the setlist (boo hoo). Anyway, one of the youth guys, Josh, was on the team leading worship this week…super cool. Anyway, finally got to go to youth – which was awesome! The group has really grown this year. Anyway, we watched Brian Welch’s “I am second” video and basically had a discussion on what came out of that…and then looked at some select passages from Ecclesiastes…looking forward to the rest of the series.

Evening

Here is love (William Rees, Matt Redman version)
Facedown (Matt Redman)
Surrender (Kim Walker)
I have found (Kim Walker)
Sing to the king (Billy Foote)

Abi was leading today with Ronel assisting, and it was one of those stressful weeks. Two new songs and things just weren’t happening. Five minutes before the service was supposed to start we were just like we need to go pray cos this is not happening…and when we did finally play I have found, it sounded wow…and people said they liked it afterwards, which is super cool considering as the band we spend probably more than 3 hours just on that one song. Quite a big team today – 4 vocalists, 3 guitars, 1 bass, and drums.

For the next six weeks we will be going through the six pillars – or main values – enGAGE stands on. Today was the third one – “Serving Purposefully”.

Ephesians 4: 11- 13 -> God has given us gifts for the work of Christian service for the building up of His Church.

2 Timothy 2: 4 – 5 -> I am only one person, I cannot do everything, but the bit that I can do – God willing – I will do…and I will do it well. We have different giftings, figure out what yours is and do that well, cos if you try to do everything you are just going to wear yourself out.

Colossians 3: 24 – 25 -> whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of our Lord Jesus, with all your heart – as if working for God and not men – giving thanks to the Father through him.

Remember, God sees your motives. Don’t do it with the intention of being praised for it, for if you do, then you’ve already got your reward.

Afterwards we read the bit where Jesus washes the disciples feet and tells them to do likewise, and then we grabbed buckets of water and washed each other’s feet.

I don’t so much mind washing other people’s feet, but having my feet washed was weird and uncomfortable, but also really cool.
